Each show features a performance in a new venue, artist interviews and venue insights. Some of the talent to expect on the upcoming season includes Corinne Bailey Rae at the Hiro Ballroom in Manhattan; David Gray at New York’s Broad Street Ballroom; The Black Crowes at Oxford’s Lyric Theatre; Dierks Bentley at Chicago’s Ravenswood Billboard Factory; and more.

The “Artists Den” began in 2004 as a series of intimate concerts, but it became televised in February 2009. Some of the past performers include Raphael Saadiq, Patty Griffin, The Swell Season, and Alanis Morissette.

Bailey Rae’s competition in this category includes a diverse set of international musicians including P-Square, M.I., Estelle, Kojo Antwi, Chipmunk, Sade, K’naan, Dizzee Rascal and HHP (Hip Hop Pantsula). BET’s fan poll has P-Square winning with 35% of votes. M.I. is trailing a close second with 20% of votes. The fan poll is unofficial, so it’s still anyone’s game! For this new album, Corinne “wanted it to sound sort of more raw, more heavy, more live than my first record… I wanted to do something that had more energy… wanted it to be the full range of emotions that you can feel… I wanted it to be strong but also be vulnerable at the same time… aggressive and playful.”  She also took the reins as co-producer and for the first time, wrote all the songs.

“The Sea” is an album that represents a deeper, more emotional place, a place in between hope and hopelessness.  Corinne first got back on the stage by playing small gigs in her hometown of Leeds.  Upon finishing the album, she wanted to get back out into the world.  And she did. Her North American leg is wrapping up in May and then she returns overseas to finish out the tour.

The album has garnered critical acclaim all over the world, particularly the moving way she explores the struggles of losing her husband, Jason Rae, to a supposed drug overdose in 2008.

Over the next week, Rae will make a number of appearances to perform “Paris Night/New York Mornings” and “I’d Do it All Again,”
